What an OEM Approval Sample Should Lock
An approval sample is useful only when it is tied to a written specification and an approval record. The goal is to remove uncertainty before mass production, not merely to confirm that one sample looks acceptable.

Define the sample purpose
State whether the sample is for product selection, dimensional fit, electrical or optical performance, color, branding, packaging, installation, or final pre-production approval. One early prototype may not prove every requirement.
Give the sample a model, revision, date, and approval owner. Attach the specification, drawing, artwork, test result, and open-issue list that apply to that exact sample.

Lock product construction and performance
Record materials, conductor or fiber construction, dimensions, weight, connector and termination details, cable length, color references, surface finish, mechanical fit, and allowable tolerances.
Define the performance checks that matter for production: electrical or optical result, insertion and withdrawal, continuity, pinout, polarity, dimensional gauge, visual criteria, and any environmental or packaging test.

Approve the complete branded pack
Check cable print, molded marks, labels, logo placement, warnings, country-of-origin text, model, barcode, date or batch code, bag, insert, inner carton, master carton, and pallet marks.
Use final artwork files with filenames and revisions. Confirm color mode, print area, minimum text size, label material, adhesive, scan quality, pack quantity, carton strength, and the position of every mark.
Create a production control reference
Keep an approved reference sample or controlled sample record. Production inspection should compare measurable fields to the specification and approved record, not to a memory of the sales sample.
If material, supplier, dimension, process, artwork, packaging, or test method changes, issue a change notice and decide whether re-sampling is required. Do not silently absorb a change into a repeat order.
