How to Build a Better Structured Cabling BOQ
A good BOQ allows a supplier to identify what is fixed, what is optional, and what is still missing. It also lets the installer and buyer compare quotations on the same basis.

Make each line independently identifiable
Use a line number, product family, clear English description, reference model, required quantity, unit, and destination. Add the drawing, room, rack, floor, or system reference that explains where the item is used.
Do not combine several lengths, colors, connector types, or packaging formats in one ambiguous line. Split them or provide a structured variant schedule that totals back to the main quantity.

Include configuration-changing fields
For copper products, include category, shielding, conductor, jacket, color, termination, port count, and wiring basis. For fiber, include fiber type, connector, polish, fiber count, polarity, gender, length, loss, and test requirement.
For enclosures and cabinets, include capacity, mounting, rack units, dimensions, access direction, loaded components, material, protection level, grounding, locks, and cable-entry requirements.
Describe the complete system and evidence
Link related cable, jack, panel, patch cord, adapter, pigtail, enclosure, manager, and cabinet lines. State whether the quotation must provide a complete channel, a component set, or individual replacement items.
List required datasheets, declarations, certificates, test reports, inspection records, drawings, labels, packing lists, country-of-origin documents, and approval samples by line or model.

Control logistics and revisions
Add pack quantity, carton and pallet limits, label language, barcode or SKU, shipping marks, destination, delivery window, split-shipment rules, and spare quantities. These fields can materially change a quotation.
Give every issue a revision number and date. Keep an assumptions register and mark each question as open, answered, or accepted. When a field changes, update the BOQ rather than relying on an isolated message.
