Product family / Copper Cable

Copper LAN cable selected around the complete installed channel.

Category is only the starting point. Conductor construction, shielding, jacket, cable diameter, pathway conditions, connecting hardware, installation practice, and acceptance limits determine the orderable cable.

System role

Horizontal links, backbone routes, short-reach data-center channels, and project-specific copper pathways.

Selection framework

Four decisions to confirm before quotation.

01

Performance basis

Confirm Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat7, or Cat8 together with link topology, frequency class, length, and the acceptance test.

02

Shielding pathway

Choose U/UTP, F/UTP, or S/FTP as a complete system. Shielded cable also needs compatible connectivity, bonding, and grounding.

03

Conductor and jacket

Lock conductor material and gauge, cable OD, PVC or LSZH direction, color, print legend, fire requirement, and route environment.

04

Supply format

Define length per pull box or reel, sequential marking, carton strength, pallet configuration, labels, and destination handling.

Buyer questions

Answers that change the configuration.

These are the questions worth resolving before a sample or quotation. Final limits and evidence still depend on the exact model.

01

When should a project move from Cat6 to Cat6A?

Start with the required application, link length, equipment plan, PoE load, pathway density, and future upgrade target. Cat6A is commonly selected for 10G-ready horizontal channels, but cable alone does not make the channel Cat6A; jacks, panels, cords, installation, and testing must match.

02

Is shielded cable automatically better than U/UTP?

No. F/UTP or S/FTP is useful when the design calls for a screened pathway, but it also requires compatible connecting hardware, screen continuity, bonding, grounding, and trained installation. A well-designed U/UTP channel may be the clearer choice where those controls are not available.

03

Does LSZH describe the cable performance category?

No. Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A describe transmission performance; LSZH describes a jacket-material direction. State the exact fire, smoke, halogen, environmental, and local-code requirement separately so the quoted construction can be checked correctly.
