Outlet, plug or jack, service loop, patch lead, local enclosure, and label selected for the device mounting condition.

02Powered copper link

Carry data and power

Cable construction, conductor, installed length, bundle condition, ambient temperature, connector, and patching reviewed against the PoE plan.

03Outdoor or campus route

Cross exposed distance

Environment, pathway, transition point, fiber type, core count, armor or protection requirement, and termination location defined by the route.

04Network cabinet

Terminate and maintain

Panel, enclosure, pigtails, adapters, patch cords, cable management, grounding approach, and device-to-port identification coordinated.

Decisions that change the bill of materials.

Is an outdoor jacket enough for every exposed route?

No. Outdoor, direct-burial, duct, aerial, UV, moisture, armor, fire-transition, and local code requirements are different fields. Describe the actual route and transition points before selecting the construction.

What PoE information belongs in the cable request?

Provide the equipment and switch plan, required power class, conductor and category basis, installed length, bundle size, pathway, ambient condition, and connector set. These inputs are more useful than writing only “PoE cable.”

When should fiber replace copper on a security link?

Review distance, electrical isolation, lightning exposure, bandwidth, pathway, active-equipment locations, power availability, and maintenance strategy. Fiber solves the data path but does not remove the need to power the field device.
